Bishop Auckland boasts multiple parks and places for people to go walking. The Auckland Castle Deer Park is one of these places to go walking, with its expanse of woodland, nature and British history. You can explore the many trails and footpaths going around Auckland Castle, the riverside and up to the old deer house hidden within the woods. There are also picnic benches and plenty of grassy land around the Deer House.
Currently, the park and deer house are over 800 years old. Before, it used to be a private ground for fox hunting. It is now used as a park and events space for people in Bishop Auckland. People can go walking and bird watching here. It also has a fish pond which you can visit and also has woodland paths.
The Auckland Castle Deer House is a Gothic building built in 1776. Click to find out more here.
Dogs must be kept on a lead whilst on walks in the park, and its riverside boardwalk is not accessible for wheelchairs but the surrounding area is.
