Loved seeing in in the fresh
However when we went I was about 7 and we had to park on the motorway.
The Angel of The North is one of the most iconic landmarks in North East England. The towering angel has made countless TV appearances. People from far off have come to see it as the symbol of the North East.Â
Contrary to the belief of many, the Angel of The North can be found in Gateshead, not Newcastle. Furthermore, Antony Gormley’s famous sculpture is visible from the A1 motorway near Gateshead.Â
The popular piece of public art is seen by more than 33 million people per year. There’s a pathway leading right up to the sculpture, so you can walk right up to it. In addition, the Angel of The North is 4 double decker buses tall and its wingspan is nearly the same as a jumbo jet.Â
Right next to the car park, there is sometimes a coffee stall and ice cream van during the day.Â
The angel is surrounded by grassy areas, trees and flowers.Â
The Angel of The North is right next to and visible from the A1; to get closer to it, take the exit for the A167 from the A1. There’s a car park right next to the angel. It’s open 24 hours and there are 26 car parking spaces available.
The angel is also accessible if you’re travelling by bus, whether that’s from Gateshead or Newcastle. There is a stop right in front of it.
There are 4 disabled parking spaces available at the Angel of The North.
There are no public toilets, which means no accessible toilets.
Guide dogs are welcome.
A path with a moderate slope runs all the way from the car park to the base of the angel, making it accessible to wheelchair users and pushchairs.
There are benches for sitting and viewing next to the car park.
