Binchester Roman Fort, located in the small village of Binchester, County Durham, was built around 80 AD and was thought to be one of the biggest military forts in the UK. This stayed true even after it was reduced in size in 160 AD. During 2009 to 2015, large amounts of excavation were performed in order to analyse and record all the remains of the Roman fort. There are many regular activities to take part in, such as re-enactment days. You can also explore the many remains of the fort, including two bathhouses.

Accessibility

Assistance dogs are allowed on site for those who may need it. The site is accessible for wheelchairs because it has level access around the fort, but it can be bumpy and uneven. Parking bays are available for use. In addition, there are accessible toilets for use. Unfortunately, public transport is limited.
