Since 2015, Cakes and Ale has supplied Carlisle with a selection of light lunches, cakes and coffee. Connected to Bookends and The Bookcase (independent bookshops with an extensive collection of new and second hand texts), Cakes and Ale is a vintage style café in the back of a 5-story Georgian house. In good weather, you are also able to enjoy their vibrant garden space. They sell a wide range of cakes and light lunches, and coffee sold by award-winning local company John Watt & Son.
When you have finished your coffee, you can choose to take a look around Bookends and The Bookcase. Adjoining bookshops owned by the same family as Cakes and Ale, these establishments flow into each other. As well as serving lunch, the café also hosts a range of book launches, quizzes and musical events. See their Facebook page for more details.
Cakes and Ale is wheelchair accessible from Long Lane and is situated in the centre of Carlisle, only a short distance from street parking or one of several car parks spread across the city. Cakes and Ale is also dog friendly and has the option to be outside.
