This estate was home to the Howard family, lords of a landmass situated in York.
Work on the house began in 1699. The construction process took over 100 years to complete.
As well as exploring the house and gardens, you can visit different exhibitions, the Castle Howard Arboretum and the Skelf Island Adventure Playground. The castle often holds special events. which can be found on their website. For food and drink, you can visit one of the three different cafés, each having their own seperate menus.

The venue has car parking available on site. However, there is no public transport nearby. While the majority of the house has level access, the front entrance and some parts do have steps going in and out of areas. Furthermore, access routes throughout may include uneven surfaces, manual doors, and narrow aisles. You can ask to borrow or hire a manual wheelchair (this must be done in advance). There is a water bowl on site for assistance dogs.

Pushchairs are not allowed in the main house and you will need to leave them in the house entrance.
Child carriers and large rucksacks need to be left at the main entrance to the house, as they are not permitted inside.
