Very cold but Passenger Assist is helpful
Make sure you wrap up warm because it is cold. Also if you have a disability make sure you pre-book in advance so they can be ready for you.
Durham Train Station is situated upon a hill and there are many ways up to it. The long slope upwards from town and that leading from warden park provides an accessible route for those in a wheelchair. In addition, there are many ramps up to the station lifts. However, there are steps up to the station lift.
Furthermore, the platform edge is marked out with a white line. Not to mention, the lifts have braille embellished buttons. There are two braille maps of Durham for those who need them. All doors are wide enough for a wheelchair to be used depending on the wheelchair’s make and model. The train station itself has two platforms, both equipped with a Costa Coffee within the waiting room.
There is enough room within to manoeuvre a wheelchair around, again depending on make and model. Seats can be removed to leave room for those in wheelchairs to sit at the tables. In addition, Platform One has a small TGJones outlet selling magazines and small snacks, and there is also a bar/pub on site. Not to mention, one can book assistance through the Passenger Assistance app. This can be found on an app store.
Furthermore, train tickets can be purchased in numerous ways; be it through online methods or in person. Not to mention, they have a range of train taxis for everyone’s needs. There is a row of disabled parking right next to the accessible exit.
