Located in the Lake District, Honister Slate Mine is the last working slate mine left in England. As well as being able to buy the slate they mine and products made from it from their shop, you can take a tour of the mine and head underground to take a deeper look at the process of mining and extracting slate. But that’s not all; they also offer a variety of more extreme activities. These include the Infinity Bridge (a tightrope-like crossing suspended 1000ft above a valley), Climb The Mine (a clambering trek through the inside of the mine using ladders and rope bridges) and both a Classic and Extreme rendition of the famous Via Ferrata (scrambling/climbing across Honister Crag). You are safely and securely clipped on at all times, and a café is also provided on site in addition to the shop. Group bookings are also available.

The visitor centre is on one even level, but the mine tours go through tunnels with uneven surfaces. A drop off point is located outside the wheelchair accessible main entrance. An accessible toilet is also situated on site.
