Overview of the Sunderland Empire

Opened in 1907 by Vesta Tilley, this theatre is a cultural cornerstone of Sunderland. Shows performed range from musicals, opera and comedy to concerts and family performances. As well as seeing a performance, you can have a pizza at their on site pizzeria, Pizza Al Teatro. Alternatively, enjoy a drink from one of their many bars.

Shows that have been previously performed include The Lion King, several different pantomimes and Hamilton. The theatre also offers various performing arts themed classes. Additionally, there are tours of the venue for those interested in getting into theatre. It’s also perfect for those wanting to know more about the history of the building.
