The History of The Sycamore Gap Tree

• The Sycamore Gap Tree is 150 years old.
• A movie based on Robin Hood was filmed at The Sycamore Gap Tree.

What Happened to the Tree When it got Chopped Down?

• The tree was deliberately chopped down with a chainsaw.
• It was chopped from the base of the trunk.
• It went down fast, because of storm ages so the tree got chopped down fast by two boys.
• When the police got a hold of the tow boys they arrested a 16 year old boy and a 60 year old man at the robin hood tree but when they were arresting them the tree was still falling so they had to move them away from the tree so that no one got hurt.
• While a popular spot for hikers or photographer’s (because of the settings if is placed) it became famous after the 1991 movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner. after the movie was filmed, The Sycamore Gap Tree gained the nickname, “The Robin Hood Tree.”
• The trunk of the tree was taken away on Thursday the 12th of October. It was so big that when it fell, the tree broke into many pieces which had to be removed via crane.
