Tate Liverpool

The History at the Tate Liverpool

Tate Liverpool opened in 1988 as part of the regeneration of the Albert Dock area. Since then, it has become one of the largest galleries of modern and contemporary art outside London. The gallery continues to showcase international and British artists while offering a space for learning, debate, and creative expression. Visitors can also explore the Tate shop, which sells art prints, books, and clothing inspired by the collection.

Activities

Tate Liverpool regularly hosts a wide range of exhibitions, all with free entry. Current and past exhibitions include The Genesis Exhibition, Do Ho Suh: Walk the House, Ithell Colquhoun, and Theatre Picasso. These exhibitions provide opportunities to engage with both historical and contemporary art.

In addition, the gallery runs interactive workshops and creative events. Examples include Sacred Space Sistars, Teylu Visiting Artist Josie KO, and food-based sessions such as Sauerkraut and Fermented Hot Sauce Workshops with Russo’s Kitchen. For families, seasonal workshops like Festive Fowl Play encourage hands-on participation and creativity for all ages.
