The Coffee House

The Coffee House Durham

Situated near the Gala Theatre on Millennium Place across from the Clayport Library, The Coffee House is an option to stop at before or after you see a show. Once you are through, amongst the décor there are an array of different seating options. Most of the seating is ordinary café style seating with a small round black table surrounded by dark wood chairs. Along the far wall on the left of the entrance there are pink sofas. Next to the front window is a bench with high stool to sit at. The counter is situated to the northwest of the entrance.

If you follow the carpet, you should be able to find the counter. There is an array of choices at the counter and so ordering from there is not a problem. Their fridge houses some of their more healthier options including yogurt and fresh fruit. Once you have ordered and you are seated the staff serve you your refreshments. Due to the windows there is alot of natural light within the building. Furthermore, the lighting itself makes the place an easy to navigate area.

Accessibility

There is only one toilet in the building and it is accessible. It is a narrow space, but there are handrails to support a transfer onto the toilet. Furthermore, whilst the staff are not specifically autism or dementia trained they’re able to help wherever they can. The floor is a mix of dark plain wood and dark carpet which shouldn’t affect accessibility. The coffee and smoothie machines make noise that could be disruptive. Whilst there is no braille menu the staff are able to read it out to you. The staff are also able to help you find a seat if you have any mobility issues.
